Theme evening: "Is he allowed to? - Police law vs. reality"
The rights and duties of police officers have been on everyone’s lips for years – be it the idealization through „cop series“ and press reports on raids against organized crime or suspected terrorists on the one hand, through controversial facts such as the death of Oury Jalloh in the custody of the Dessau police, fatal use of firearms, such as in Dortmund against a 16-year-old Syrian, or very robust behavior at demonstrations on the other. Many people wondered last year, for example, whether the officers should have taken action to this extent against the demonstrators at the meeting regarding Lina E. or at soccer matches (e.g. Eintracht Frankfurt against VfB Stuttgart).
On Wednesday at 8 pm, we want to discuss the scope for decision-making granted to the police by law and the extent to which practice and theory diverge.
We are looking forward to Azim Semizoğlu, research assistant at the Chair of Constitutional and Administrative Law of Prof. Jochen Rozek at the Faculty of Law of the University of Leipzig, with whom we will get to the bottom of the question „Is he allowed to do that?“. You are cordially invited!
